·       Explore the scientific and patient centered approaches to finding and validating accessible and affordable therapies for cancer care, such as real-world data, AI, preclinical models and clinical trials

·       Discuss the overall impact of readily available and affordable cancer therapies for patient globally in affluent and less affluent Countries (LMICs)

Prof. Ian Tannock, MD, PhD,  is Emeritus Professor of Medicine and Medical Biophysics at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and University of Toronto. His clinical expertise is in GU and breast cancer. His research investigated methods related to cancer clinical trials, and he chaired trials for men with metastatic prostate cancer that led to licensing of drugs that are used worldwide for this disease. Dr. Tannock is an editor of the Basic Science of Oncology textbook

Dr. Tannock was a member of the Board of Directors of ASCO from 2001-2004. He chaired (2018-2020) the ASCO working group that organizes International Clinical Trials Workshops. Since retiring from active practice and lab-based research in 2014, Dr Tannock teaches both locally and internationally, and authors papers relating to clinical trial methodology.

 Bishal Gyawali, MD, PhD is an associate professor in medical oncology and public health sciences and scientist  in Queen’s University, Kingston, Canada. Dr. Gyawali’ s areas of academic interests include cancer policy, evidence-based oncology, financial toxicities of cancer treatment, clinical trial methods, supportive care, cancer care disparities, and global oncology. Dr. Jacques Bezuidenhout , Master degree of Medicine cum laude (Radboud Universiteit Nijmegen, 2009-2011) Master of Advanced Oncology (University of Ulm, 2017-2020), ESMO Academy and examination (2019),  Postgraduate diploma in Health Economics (University of Cape Town, starting February 2024). His clinical work mainly urological and gastrointestinal tumors with a particular focus on MRI-guided radiotherapy. Growing up in South Africa and studying and working in different high-income countries in Europe highlighted the enormous disparities that exist in access to oncological care. This sparked his interest in global oncology.
